Insomnia Increases the Risk of Stroke and Heart Attack

In this macro study, 15 studies involving 16.098 participants were considered.

During the registered period, 11.702 cases of cardiovascular or coronary disorders were identified. All patients showed symptoms of insomnia during the study.

However, it is striking that this problem does not occur in patients who wake up before their anxiety is turned off.

Rather, it affects those who fall asleep for a long time or those whose sleep is interrupted. As a result, the body suffers from a lack of sleep, which can become a problem.

However, the head of the study says that it is still difficult to determine the exact relationship between the two phenomena:

  1. On the one hand, it is clear that lack of sleep affects metabolism.
  2. As a result, it alters blood pressure as well as inflammatory and pro-inflammatory cytokines. All of them are involved in cerebral or coronary infarction.

However, it affects all people differently.

Women are at increased risk, so they are more likely to have insomnia. This is due to hormonal changes and stress response.

Therefore, we recommend everyone (especially women) to pay attention to the quality of sleep.

Tips for good sleep


Exercise not only trains but also produces substances in the brain that prevent insomnia, including serotonin.

In addition, they reduce the level of cortisol – a stress hormone. Therefore, after training, you will notice that you are in a more positive mood and feel more relaxed.

Moreover, physical activity increases self-esteem, as it helps us to overcome mental and physical limitations and improve the figure.

Do not go to bed without getting tired

Sometimes we make a mistake when we go to bed when we think it’s time to do it. However, this can be a problem if you have insomnia.

Forced sleep has the opposite effect: there is stress.
