It is logical that we talk so much about insomnia. After all, it is a problem that affects more and more people every day, despite the fact that sleep has a fundamental function in our body.
During this time, our body rests and is reborn after daily fatigue. That’s why when we sleep badly, we suffer so much that we can’t even imagine.
Although we are increasingly aware of the importance of taking care of ourselves, competition in society and the demands of our workforce us to ignore certain aspects, such as good sleep hygiene.
In fact, insomnia covers all the phenomena that do not always allow you to rest during the night. That way, when it happens, you don’t recover as you should.
Although the consequences of this condition are very diverse, recent studies in China have shown that insomnia increases the risk of stroke and heart attack.
In this macro study, 15 studies involving 16.098 participants were considered.
During the registered period, 11.702 cases of cardiovascular or coronary disorders were identified. All patients showed symptoms of insomnia during the study.
However, it is striking that this problem does not occur in patients who wake up before their anxiety is turned off.
Rather, it affects those who fall asleep for a long time or those whose sleep is interrupted. As a result, the body suffers from a lack of sleep, which can become a problem.
However, the head of the study says that it is still difficult to determine the exact relationship between the two phenomena:
- On the one hand, it is clear that lack of sleep affects metabolism.
- As a result, it alters blood pressure as well as inflammatory and pro-inflammatory cytokines. All of them are involved in cerebral or coronary infarction.
However, it affects all people differently.
Women are at increased risk, so they are more likely to have insomnia. This is due to hormonal changes and stress response.
Therefore, we recommend everyone (especially women) to pay attention to the quality of sleep.
Tips for good sleep
Exercise not only trains but also produces substances in the brain that prevent insomnia, including serotonin.
In addition, they reduce the level of cortisol – a stress hormone. Therefore, after training, you will notice that you are in a more positive mood and feel more relaxed.
Moreover, physical activity increases self-esteem, as it helps us to overcome mental and physical limitations and improve the figure.
Do not go to bed without getting tired
Sometimes we make a mistake when we go to bed when we think it’s time to do it. However, this can be a problem if you have insomnia.
Forced sleep has the opposite effect: there is stress.
Have you ever thought that you never manage to fall asleep on those days when you need to wake up earlier than usual? In general, we go to bed earlier than we should, and then obsession with sleep leads to the opposite effect.
Create a schedule to avoid the risk of stroke and heart attack
It is also important to have some order in your life. The brain loves order. Once you set a schedule, it will work smoothly.
Once you have a schedule, you will be surprised when you are very active at 9 am and suddenly start yawning at 10 pm.
Do the same with the time you wake up. However, take it easy.
If you can’t sleep, get up and read a boring book that you will never be able to finish.
Although research is not very encouraging, the good news is that there is a way to beat insomnia. If you sleep well, you will be less likely to have this condition in your life.
True, insomnia increases the risk of stroke, but you already have enough reason to calm down, don’t you?
